Oxford Auto & Tire is a full-service auto shop in Oxford, Pennsylvania. In other words, we can maintain and repair your automobile whether it is gasoline-powered or diesel-powered. Let’s talk below about the common diesel engine problems we repair on a regular basis.

Difficulty Starting the Engine

If you can’t remember the last time that you had your diesel engine maintained, you may find that it is getting difficult to get the engine started. Poor maintenance causes the diesel engine to crank several times before the engine will fire up. Eventually, you may not be able to get the diesel engine started. If your diesel engine is having a hard time firing up, bring your vehicle to our shop.

Diesel Engine Power Loss

A poorly-maintained diesel engine may also lose power. The reason why is that you may end up with clogged fuel injectors or a clogged fuel filter that prevent the delivery of the diesel fuel to the engine. Other common problems that cause diesel engine power loss include excessive lubrication and a loose throttle linkage. We can fix any of these problems.

Contaminated Diesel Fuel

If your diesel fuel gets contaminated by soot, water, or glycol, it can seriously damage your diesel engine as it runs through it. Diesel fuel is susceptible to contamination because it is thick inconsistency. You may not realize that your diesel fuel is contaminated until it is too late. Don’t worry. We can repair the engine damage caused by contaminated diesel fuel.

Excessive Black Exhaust

You can expect a tiny bit of black exhaust to flow out of your diesel vehicle’s tailpipe, but if you see excessive exhaust flowing out of the pipe, you have a problem in the engine that is causing it to burn too much fuel. For example, if your air filter is clogged, you will have little air flowing into the combustion chamber and too much fuel. This will cause the black exhaust.

Too Much Engine Noise

Finally, even though diesel engines tend to run louder than gasoline engines do, you should not hear excessive noise coming from the engine or strange noises such as knocking or squealing. These sounds can be an indication that you have an exhaust system problem, a problem with the fuel injectors, or another issue that is affecting the compression balance in the engine.
